Creating a more sustainable world one couch at a time.

What is sustainability?

What does sustainability mean to Calico Sol? We like the EPAs definition which follows.

“Everything that we need for our survival and well-being depends, either directly or indirectly, on our natural environment. To pursue sustainability is to create and maintain the conditions under which humans and nature can exist in productive harmony to support present and future generations.”

Sustainability is at the core of Calico Sol’s strategy. Our ambitious sustainability objectives are closely aligned with our vision to transition the furnishing industry to a 100% renewable model.

Sustainable Furniture

Made in the USA

We manufacture all of our furniture in the USA which allows us to reduce our overall carbon footprint. Our skilled craftspeople and furniture makers have honed an exceptional level of detail and are passionate about good quality materials, sustainability, and the circular economy. At Calico Sol we hire highly trained labor to deliver a combination of modern production methods blended with traditional skills.

Sustainable Design

For us, it’s not just the obvious things that can make a difference to sustainability. We believe that the longevity of a product is probably the most important factor. We not only use as many sustainable materials as we can, but we also make things to last; because considering their durability, naturally leads to more sustainable design. In-built obsolescence is anathema to us; wasting both materials and energy. We want our products to last – hopefully, they’ll become the antiques of the future.

We believe in increasing the longevity of a product by analyzing its entire lifecycle. We achieve our goal of having every product live multiple lives through design, durability, and recycling. Gone are the days of only being able to use a product one time before it is discarded. We want our products to last and live multiple lives so that the environmental impact is decreased and so that the cost to you is decreased.
